RUSH Construction first became involved with the LEED® Green Building Rating System and facilities while acting as the design-build contractor on the DEOMI facility, a $15.9 million, design-build project at Patrick AFB, Florida. While this project was not required to be LEED certified, it was designed and constructed with LEED principles, requirements and constraints.
Our second involvement with a LEED project involved the construction of the KSC Commissary Warehouse for Delaware North at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC). This facility, the first of its kind at KSC, was completed in September 2006, and has been accepted by the United States Green Building Council as a “Silver Certified” LEED facility.
We recently completed our third LEED related facility, which is the Life Support Facility located at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. This $5.4 million project encompasses 22,000 square feet has been certified at a “Silver” level.
In addition, RUSH Construction also recently completed a $2.8 million, research and development facility for Honda R&D Americas, Inc. This 11,000 square foot facility is the first “Green” facility built in the Town of Grant-Valkaria and is currently under review for certification at a “Gold” level by the United States Green Building Council. Completion of this project occurred in December 2008.

- Currently, RUSH has Six LEED Accredited Professionals on staff and is a regular attendee at the annual “Green Build” International conference in order to further our understanding and knowledge of sustainable design and construction.
Other environmental initiatives that we are currently undertaking includes recycling programs at our office and project sites, and the purchasing of high-efficiency and hybrid powered vehicles.
As part of our overall efforts in the area of “Green Building”, RUSH attempts to be conscious of environmental issues related to our project sites. We are proud to have the distinction of having received NASA’s first ever “Environmental Recognition Award”
